Over the last couple of months I have been waiting in anticipation for this fun animation film to be released and I can tell you that it was definitely worth it. Despicable Me 2 is still full of the same lovable characters, including the adorable yellow minions, that keep you smiling throughout the film.

In the first film we  were introduced to Gru, who is a super-villain by trade and in his attempt to steal the moon, he stumbles upon three orphaned little girls that he adopts to further his evil plans. However, they quickly crawl into his heart and by the end of the film we see him realising the importance of family and changing his ways.

In the sequel, we see Gru really fulfilling his role as father and how close this little family has become, but they’re still not whole as there is no “Mommy” in the picture. The neighbours see this as well and are some comical scenes where they try to fix Gru up with a date and he has absolutely no interest. Instead he puts all his focus into transforming his laboratory into a jam and jelly factory, but as his evil scientist says “You can’t teach a very old evil scientist  new tricks”

Around this time, Gru is approached by the Anti Villain League, who asks him to help them catch a new villain who’s stolen a top-secret formula that changes living things into killing machines. Here he meets up with Lucy, who is his an agent with the league and also his partner on this case.

Despicable Me 2 is a light, fun film that adults will enjoy watching as it allows you to just switch off and laugh at the silliness on screen. The minions also play a very active role in this film, steeling a lot of the scenes with their hilarity and the children absolutely adore them. There isn’t a very strong message that comes through in this film apart from it continuing the family thread that was established in the first one.

All in all it’s a great film to add to your collection, with lots of quips that will have the family laughing for days after. If you’d like to have a look at some of the freebies, competitions and pictures relating to film, go have a look at their site.
