Ender’s Game is the first film from the Ender’s Saga Series and sets the scene for what is still to follow. It is based on the novel written by Orson Scott and is the story of Andrew “Ender” Wiggin, an unusually gifted child who is sent to an advanced military academy in outer space to prepare for a future alien invasion.
Based on the opinions of those who have read the books, I expected a lot from the film and the storyline. I was sadly not impressed. I didn’t think it was horrid, but it felt like just another child-lead film with a lot of focus being on him preparing for this invasion and no action taking place and even though the acting and special effects were done well, it never got off to being impressive.
My opinion of the story changed however as we got closer to the end of the film, where a major twist grabbed my attention and made me realise that even though this film isn’t as strong as I expected, it is laying the foundation for something bigger to come. It is painting the background and giving the story a platform to expand from, which leaves me excited for the next release.
